Our U7 to U12 girls all took part in the annual Camogie Parish Leagues tournament on Saturday 14th September, with the Finals day taking place on Saturday 21st. The conditions were ideal, with dry weather and sunshine adding to the wonderful community atmosphere both on and off the pitch. In all 3 competitions, wonderful camogie was on display, demonstrating the skills learnt in training and exhibiting the improvements made year on year.
This year, to great excitement on Final Day, the girls were each led in a parade by pipers, Norman and John, and then the sound of Amhran na bhFiann resounded around the pitch. This added greatly to the whole occasion.
The U7 and U8 camogie teams showcased incredible talent and determination over the two days of thrilling competition. Excitement was in the air as Kilkenny, leading the scoreboard after day one, continued their dominant run, securing the overall win with two more impressive victories on the final day. Tipperary managed to break through Kilkenny’s solid defense, scoring the only goal against them in the last game, highlighting their resilience. Waterford finished strong in second place, narrowly missing out on the top spot, while Clare and Tipperary closely followed in third, showing great promise. Limerick and Wexford also displayed impressive skills, making their mark with some fantastic matches.
The U9 and U10 camogie teams did not disappoint as they took up their positions on the pitch. Four teams contested this league, playing a double round robin. The standard of play was exceptional throughout. There were some hard fought battles and every girl on the pitch showed fierce determination over the 2 days. It was wonderful to see the girls enjoying the friendly competition and digging deep for their "province". As always, however, one team had to win and this year it was the turn of Munster, captained by Ellie-Mai O'Connor.
And lastly for U11 and U12, four teams took part. For our U12s this is always a particularly special event as it is their last year competing in the Parish Leagues. The games were played with huge commitment, skill, bravery and effort throughout, no team giving an inch and all played in a fantastic spirit. Munster took home the trophy with Sarah Kennedy as winning captain and all the girls were delighted for her.
Overall 3 competitions, the girls have much to be proud of, with their families, supporters, and coaches cheering them on throughout. No doubt, these young athletes are shaping up to become formidable teams in the future, and their rise to glory will be something to watch! Well done to all.
