U14s WIN FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL IN THRILLER
The U14s beat Passage to win the Mid Division 1 Football Championship Final last night on a scoreline of 3-9 to 3-8 after extra time. Blarney led for most of the game but were pegged back and the sides were level with 5 minutes to go in ordinary time. Then a fortuitous goal for Passage left Blarney trailing by that goal with time almost up. Enter Blarney’s captain, Eoghan O’ Keeffe, who blasted the ball to the net with the last kick before the final whistle.
With darkness descending, the teams were informed that there would be 20 minutes of extra time. Blarney again made the initial running but Passage reeled them back in and the teams were once again level with time almost up. Then, with penalties looming, up popped Bobby Fitzgerald with the winning point to secure the cup for Blarney.
