It was a beautiful afternoon on May Bank Holiday Monday and the u15 Football Féile competition was epic in Canovee GAA Club. We were treated to wonderful hospitality by the hosting team - beautiful home baking coupled with tea, coffee and soft drinks. The atmosphere around the pitch was buzzing as everyone awaited the referee - who turned up fashionably late!!
First game - Blarney v Canovee. This game was a challenging start - the teams were neck on neck for the most of the game. At half time the scores were Blarney 1-4 to Canovee 1-3. The half time team talk must have been something to watch as the boys game out fighting in the second half and played a fabulous display of football. The final score was Blarney 1-8 to Canovee 2-4.
Second game - Blarney v Macroom. If the first game was a tight match, it had nothing on this!! Macroom started strong and tested our boys hugely. The half time score was Blarney 1-2 to Macroom 2-4. However our boys held their heads up high and came back determined in the second half. They showed fierce doggedness and there was wonderful team play observed in each part of the pitch. The final score was Blarney 4-7 to Macroom 2-7.
This means that Blarney make it through to the next round - date yet to be determined. A wonderful entertaining afternoon of football and we emerged victorious over 2 football strongholds. A great confidence boost as we look forward to the Hurling Féile on Saturday next. An Bhlárna abú!!!
